The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Ronald E. Frank, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Forward Air Controller in Southeast Asia on 3 February 1969. On that date, Lieutenant Frank discovered five hostile vehicles and a large caliber anti-aircraft weapon traveling in convoy along a hostile infiltration route. In spite of approaching darkness and heavy caliber anti-aircraft fire, he skillfully directed three flights of tactical fighter aircraft fire, he skillfully directed three flights of tactical fighter aircraft against this convoy and obtained three large secondary fires and one large secondary explosion from the target. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Frank reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
