The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Technical Sergeant Leonard J. Foret, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-123 Flight Mechanic near Hiep Duc, Republic of Vietnam on 19 May 1970. On that date Sergeant Foret flew an airdrop mission at low altitude over hostile terrain, transporting food, water, and ammunition to friendly military personnel surrounded by hostile forces. In spite of heavy ground fire which severely damaged his aircraft, Sergeant Foret’s outstanding professional performance contributed directly to the successful accomplishment of this highly important mission and the safe recovery of the crippled aircraft. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Foret reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
