The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain William R. Bradfield, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight on 24 April 1968. On that date, Captain Bradfield flew a vitally important mission into the A Shaw Valley to seek out and destroy hostile firing positions. Due to his professional airmanship and disregard for his own safety, friendly forces were able to move into the valley and secure it. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Bradfield reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
