The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Eugene C. Adee, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4D pilot near a besieged fire support base in Laos, on 27 February 1971. On that date, Lieutenant Adee made repeated bombing and gunnery attacks against attacking hostile forces and gun emplacements in the face of intense automatic weapons and anti-aircraft fire. Lieutenant Adee’s aggressiveness, unerring bombing, and disregard for personal safety made a significant contribution to the successful defense of the friendly fire support base and destroyed two hostile gun sites and two artillery weapons. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Adee reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
