The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Eugene C. Adee, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4D pilot twenty-seven miles southwest of Quang Tri, Republic of Vietnam, on 13 January 1971. On that date, Lieutenant Adee led a flight of two fighter aircraft in attacking an extremely dangerous hostile location. His expert assistance to the Aircraft Commander in the tactical execution of the mission, coupled with extremely accurate ordnance delivery inflicted numerous casualties on the hostile force and destroyed one active anti-aircraft gun site and two military structures. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Adee reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
