The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Field Cook Tracy L. Robie, Jr. (MCSN: 492589), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Field Cook while serving with the Third Battalion, Twenty-Eighth Marines, FIFTH Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Iwo Jima, in the Volcano Islands, on 2 March 1945. Resolute and determined during a fierce night battle, Field Cook Robie repeatedly carried urgently needed hand grenades to front line platoons to aid in stopping an enemy counterattack. Subsequently while attempting the rescue of a Marine companion from the forward lines during a hazardous action, Field Cook Robie was mortally wounded. His daring courage and loyal devotion to duty in the face of grave danger and his selfless conduct in risking his life to save that of another were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life in the service of his country.
