The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Ralph H. Crouch (MCSN: 855881), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action as Company Runner of Company B, First Battalion, Ninth Marines, THIRD Marine Division during operations against enemy forces on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands on 25 February 1945. Severely wounded while carrying a vital message to an assault platoon, Private First Class Crouch resolutely crawled some hundred yards to his destination to deliver the message, succumbing shortly after completing his mission. His fortitude, courage and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Private First Class Crouch and the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
