Headquarters, U.S. Forces in the Philippines, General Orders No. 14 (April 4, 1942)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star (Army Award) to Corporal Raymond H. Collins (MCSN: 279656), United States Marine Corps, for gallantry in action while serving with Battery A, Company K, Third Battalion, Fourth Marine Regiment at Lapiang Point, Bataan, Philippine Islands on 24 January 1942. When an enemy machine gun opened fire on the flank of his company, Corporal Collins immediately attempted to reach a position from which he cold destroy the hostile gun position with grenades. This courageous non-commissioned officer persisted in his attempt in the face of heavy enemy machine gun fire despite open terrain which provided little cover and retired to his organization only when specifically ordered to do so by his commanding officer.
