The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Second Gold Star in lieu of a Third Award of the Legion of Merit to Colonel Myron C. Harrington, Jr. (MCSN: 0-81869), United States Marine Corps, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commanding Officer, Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Unit, the Citadel, Charleston, South Carolina from March 1988 through June 1991. Through imaginative, energetic, and dynamic leadership, Colonel Herrington intensified support of midshipmen, enhanced the Unit’s environment for professional development, and through personal commitment, elevated the image of the Naval service. His superb efforts resulted in the NROTC Unit achieving outstanding success in recruiting, academics, physical readiness, university funding, facilities improvements, community relations, risk management, and recognition given to each member of his command and his outstanding leadership by example inspired subordinates to achieve their personal and professional goals. By his outstanding leadership, exemplary judgment, and inspiring devotion to duty, Colonel Harrington reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service.
