The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Private William F. Bushnell (MCSN: 832978), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy. Private Bushnell, twice entered a burning plane which had crashed in the Recruit Depot area an with complete disregard for his own safety, removed two of the passengers contained therein to a place of safety.
