The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Sergeant Elmer R. Bostock (MCSN: 513641), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for heroism on 2 April 1945 in rescuing members of the crew of an SB-2C and for exceptional bravery, and with complete disregard for his own personal safety, in extinguishing the flames of a burning aircraft, in which the pilot and gunner seemed hopelessly unable to extricate themselves. In the face of imminent danger to his own life, Sergeant Bostock displayed exceptional courage and devotion to duty, beyond anything normally expected. His courage and conduct were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
