The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Corporal William H. Bold (MCSN: 342965), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for heroism on Guam, Mariana Islands, on 2 August 1944, in rescuing a Marine from drowning. Under conditions of great personal danger from stormy seas and with complete disregard for his own personal safety, Corporal Bold voluntarily and courageously paddled a rubber boat to the rescue of the drowning man carrying with him a line with which the man was pulled ashore. His courageous conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
