(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Sergeant Norman F. Karkos (MCSN: 1866644), United States Marine Corps, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving with 1st Force Reconnaissance Company, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, FIRST Marine Division (Rein.), FMF, in connection with combat operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam on January 23, 1969. By his courage, aggressive fighting spirit and steadfast devotion to duty in the face of extreme personal danger, Sergeant Karkos upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
