The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Lance Corporal Ronald George Jordet (MCSN: 2156757), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as a Fire Team Leader with Company K, Third Battalion, Fourth Marines, THIRD Marine Division in Vietnam on 26 September 1966. During Operation Prairie in Quang Tri Province, Lance Corporal Jordet’s Fire Team was serving as the Battalion’s leading element when they came under heavy attack from enemy machine gun fire, mines and grenades. Immediately, the unit’s first two point men were mortally by the initial burst of fire. Disregarding the shouted warning of his wounded comrade, not to rescue him, Lance Corporal Jordet courageously exposed himself to the fire of the enemy machine gun in an effort to locate its position destroy the emplacement and save his companion. Shouting back the location of the machine gun to the remainder of his platoon Lance Corporal Jordet fell, fatally wounded as he attempted to deliver rifle fire upon the enemy. As a result of his gallant actions, his platoon was able to pinpoint the bunker and destroy it. By his selfless courage, presence of mind, and unswerving devotion to duty, Lance Corporal Jordet upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
