The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Jerry R. Frazier (MCSN: 2457855), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as a Rifleman with Company L, Third Battalion, Fourth Marines, THIRD Marine Division (Rein.), FMF, in connection with operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam. On 26 February 1969, Private First Class Frazier’s squad was conducting a patrol in the northern sector of Quang Tri Province when the Marines came under a heavy volume of small arms, automatic weapons, and rocket propelled grenade fire from a large, well-concealed North Vietnamese Army force and sustained several casualties. With complete disregard for his own safety, Private First Class Frazier unhesitatingly maneuvered across the fire-swept terrain to aid two wounded companions, and as he was fearlessly assisting one of the injured Marines to cover, he was subjected to intense hostile grenade fire. Demonstrating a sincere concern for the welfare of his wounded comrade, Private First Class Frazier was valiantly shielding the man withy his own body when he was mortally wounded by the fragmentation of exploding enemy grenades. His heroic and timely actions inspired all who observed him and were responsible for saving the life of a fellow Marines. By his courage, bold initiative and selfless devotion to duty, Private First Class Frazier upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
