The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lance Corporal Thomas F. During a company size operation in Quang Tri Province, Lance Corporal Fisher’s unit came under a sudden enemy attack, receiving approximately 100 rounds of mortar round resulted in the traumatic amputation of both Lance Corporal Fisher’s legs below the knees. Although suffering excruciating pain and bleeding profusely from his wounds, he courageously braved the continuing enemy fire and crawled fifteen meters to his company’s 60 mm mortar position in a gallant attempt to return fire on the enemy. By his heroic actions and inspiring devotion to duty, Lance Corporal Fisher upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service.
