The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Frederick A. Carolan (MCSN: 0-72088), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving with Marine Composite Reconnaissance Squadron ONE, Marine Aircraft Group ELEVEN, First Marine Aircraft Wing, from May to June 1967. Captain Carolan flew missions in support of a high priority, classified Department of Defense project. By his daring actions and loyal devotion to duty in the face of considerable personal risk, Captain Carolan reflected great credit upon himself and the Marine Corps and upheld the finest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
