The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant David A. Boillot (MCSN: 0-102669), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as Commanding Officer of Company A, First Battalion, Twenty-Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Rein.), FMF, in connection with combat operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam. On 19 June 1968, Company A was participating in Operation ALLEN BROOK when Second Lieutenant Boillot was informed that two companies from his battalion were heavily engaged in combat with a large North Vietnamese Army force. Reacting instantly, he skillfully led his men across 6,000 meters of open terrain to the beleaguered Marines’ position while under constant enemy sniper fire. Rapidly assessing the situation, he skillfully adjusted airstrikes on the first objective and unhesitatingly maneuvered his men through a heavy volume of hostile small arms and automatic weapons fire to seize the disputed area. After directing artillery fire on the second objective, which was an enemy-occupied tree line, Second Lieutenant Boillot led an aggressive assault against the hostile emplacements. Constantly exposing himself to intense enemy fire, he fearlessly moved throughout the hazardous area shouting instructions and encouragement to his men and ably directing their fire on the hostile force. His resolute determination and sound knowledge of tactics enabled his company to force the North Vietnamese Army unit to break contact and withdraw while accounting for fifteen enemy killed and numerous weapons captured. By his courage, aggressive leadership and unswerving devotion to duty in the face of extreme personal danger, Second Lieutenant Boillot inspired all who observed him and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service.
