The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Robert A. Biskey (MCSN: 1871095), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as a Rifleman with Company I, Third Battalion, First Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Rein.), FMF, in connection with operations against insurgent communist (Viet Cong) forces in the Republic of Vietnam. On 5 March 1966, Private First Class Biskey was participating in a search and clear operation in the village complex of Chau Nhai when his platoon encountered intense automatic weapons fire from a well entrenched Viet Cong force. Hostile fire was so intense that the Marines’ movement was limited to fire and maneuver by individual rushes. Noticing that one of the fire teams had become separated from the platoon and all members had been wounded, Private First Class Biskey unhesitatingly advanced across seventy-five meters of fire-swept terrain to aid his comrades. Undaunted by the savage incoming fire, he competently administered first aid to the wounded men and stalwartly remained in the exposed position for most of the afternoon while his Company was evacuating other casualties and reconsolidating forces for a flanking attack on the enemy. While single-handedly protecting his stricken comrades, he killed a Viet Cong officer and possibly killed two other guerillas. As the necessity for evacuating the casualties became increasingly apparent Private First Class Biskey exhibited daring initiative, picking up one of the wounded men and running with him through a hail of enemy automatic weapons and mortar fire to a safe position. His valiant action undoubtedly saved at least one man’s life, and was an inspiration to al who observed him. By his unrelenting courage, intrepid fighting spirit and selfless dedication to duty throughout, Private First Class Biskey upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
