The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star (Army Award) to Corporal James George Pavlakos (MCSN: 274919), United States Marine Corps, for gallantry in action while serving with the Third Battalion, Fourth Marine Regiment, at Fort Mills, Philippine Islands, 15 February 1942. During the course of an enemy artillery bombardment on Fort Mills, Private First Class Pavlakos, without regard for his personal safety, voluntarily left a place of shelter and assisted in the removal of wounded Navy personal from the South Deck, over ground exposed to enemy fire.
