General Carl Mundy enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve and enrolled in the Platoon Leaders Class Program in 1953. He achieved the rank of sergeant before he was commissioned in 1957. As a Marine Corps Four-Star General, Carl Mundy subsequently served as the 30th Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps from July 1, 1991, to June 30, 1995. His son, Carl E. Mundy, III, also achieved Flag Rank in the U.S. Marine Corps.
