The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Regan Fuller (MCSN: 0-6952), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while in command of the First Platoon, Company A, First Battalion, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces near Hambule, Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, on 24 September 1942. In the face of hostile machine gun and rifle fire, Captain Fuller, with utter disregard for his own personal safety, led his platoon in seizing a hill on the right flank of his battalion within seventy-five yards of a heavily armed enemy entrenchment and directed the placing of his mortars and machine guns in the most advantageous position. By his excellent leadership and outstanding devotion to duty, he contributed in great part to the overwhelming defeat of the enemy.
