The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Florest V. Wyatt (MCSN: 316418), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as fire team leader of Company A, First Battalion, Twenty-ninth Marines, SIXTH Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces on Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands on 14 May 1945. When three men in this fire team became casualties during an attack on a heavily defended ridge in the Naha-Shuri sector, Corporal Wyatt dashed forward into the fire swept area and administered treatment to the one survivor. Then, attacking enemy soldiers who began firing at him he shot them down with his wounded companion’s automatic weapon and despite his own wounds and the continuous enemy fire, carried the Marine to safety. His indomitable fighting spirit, determination and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
