The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Stanley W. Wrobleski (MCSN: 357117), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving with the FIRST Marine Division during combat with enemy Japanese forces on Cape Gloucester, Western New Britain on January 9, 1944. Engaged in a bitter fire fight when a call for assistance came from a wounded Marine, Private First Class Wrobleski unhesitatingly went to the rescue making his way through dense jungle underbrush and in the face of intense hostile machine gun fire. Reaching the side of the helpless man, he dragged him to a position of comparative safety and administered first aid within twenty yards of withering enemy fire. Later while performing a mission as runner he was fatally wounded. Private First Class Wrobleski’s daring initiative and selfless devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. Private First Class Stanley W. Wrobleski gave his life for his country.
