The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Homer P. Wragg (MCSN: 460765), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as an acting platoon Sergeant in an Assault Rifle Platoon of Company L, Third Battalion, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces on Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands on 9 May 1945. Although suffering from grenade fragment wounds sustained earlier in the day, Sergeant Wragg assumed command when his platoon leader was wounded while taking a difficult ridge. After consolidating the hard won position, he reorganized his men and despite heavy machine gun and mortar fire, held the ridge until reinforcements could be brought up. By his courage and coolness under fire, Sergeant Wragg contributed materially to the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
