The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Jason M. Woody (MCSN: 374449), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a machine gunner of Weapons Company, First Marine Parachute Regiment, First Amphibious Corps in action against enemy Japanese forces on Choiseul, Solomon Islands on 30 October 1943. During an attack on Japanese held Sangigai Village, Private First Class Woody exposed himself repeatedly to enemy fire to operate a machine gun without a tripod and protect the left flank of our attacking forces. Holding the heavy gun in his arms he annihilated an entire squad of Japanese attempting to infiltrate our lines and by his courage and initiative prevented serious casualties among our units. His devotion to duty throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
