The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Roy R. Wilson (MCSN: 842326), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity, while serving as a member of Air Warning Squadron Eight in action against enemy Japanese forces on Ie Shima, Ryukyu Islands on 30 April 1945. When his patrol was pinned down by intense fire from an enemy held cave, Private First Class Wilson twice exposed himself to hostile fire to aid a wounded comrade and to hurl several grenades into the cave. By his initiative, leadership and courageous devotion to duty he upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
