The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Eugene N. Wilson (MCSN: 305613), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company E, Second Battalion, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces on Peleliu, Palau Islands from 15 September to 26 October 1944. Participating in a fierce attack against the enemy on Bloody Nose Ridge, Private Wilson skillfully and effectively directed his machine gun fire to neutralize or destroy several hostile positions and during the ensuing action thwarted numerous enemy attempts to infiltrate our lines. Although wounded three times in the furious engagement, he refused to be evacuated and remaining steadfast at his post, contributed essentially to the success of his company in the completion of an important mission. His intrepid fighting spirit, unfaltering endurance and great personal valor in the face of grave peril reflect the highest credit upon Private Wilson and the United States Naval Service.
