The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Forrest W. Wild (MCSN: 252304), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as guide of a platoon in Company A, First Battalion, First Marines, FIRST Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces in the Southwest Pacific Area on December 28, 1943. While his company was engaged in a fire fight, Sergeant Wild continually assisted his platoon by pointing out targets, checking ammunition supplies and giving his comrades advice and encouragement. On one occasion when his section was out of grenades he daringly exposed himself to enemy attack in order to bring an arm load of the weapons to the firing line and distribute them among his men. L Sergeant Wild’s inspiring leadership and fearless devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
