(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Sergeant Joseph T. Finn, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action while serving with the 175th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy during World War II. During an attack by the enemy on his company’s positions, Sergeant Finn, acting as observer for mortar fire, became the sole objective of an enemy machine gun. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Sergeant Finn remained at his post and through his brilliant observation for the mortars, was directly responsible for forcing the enemy to withdraw. While this retreat was still in progress, Sergeant Finn accurately placed small arms fire on the fleeting troops, killing two of the enemy. The gallantry and great courage displayed by Sergeant Finn reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
