(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Corporal Mary T. Lynne, United States Army, was awarded the Soldier’s Medal for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States at Port Moresby, New Guinea, on 11 October 1944. Corporal Lynne was burned when she and two comrades smothered flames and brought a fire under control after an explosion by an oil stove in an enlisted women’s barracks at Port Moresby.
