The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Brannon J. Dutton, United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States in rescuing another enlisted man form a burning truck on 15 September 1941 near Hagewood, Louisiana. During a night march without lights the kitchen truck of a field artillery battery, equipped with gasoline ranges and carrying several containers of gasoline, ran off the road, overturned and gust into flames. One man was pinned inside the burning truck and Privates First Class Emmett L. Coppock and Brannon J. Dutton, disregarding their own danger, extricated him.
