(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant (Nurse Corps) Kathleen R. Dial, United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as a Flight Nurse with the FIFTH Air Force, in the Southwest Pacific on 10 June 1944. Lieutenant Dial broke her hip, dislocated her shoulder, and suffered a concussion, when her aircraft crashed onto a New Guinea beach. Although in partial coma she directed the loading of the crash boats and then collapsed. Her outstanding courage and dedication to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon herself and the United States Army Air Forces.
