The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Specialist William Anthony Scroggins, United States Army, for heroism above and beyond the call of duty on 6 January 2007, by saving the life of a stabbing victim while assigned to American Forces Network Hessen. Specialist Scroggins acted decisively and without regard to his own personal safety to subdue an attacker who was stabbing a defenseless victim at a hospital in Mainz, Germany. Mainz Police credit him with saving the life of the victim while helping to bring the attacker to justice. Specialist Scroggins’ heroic act in the face of immediate and grave danger is in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, the United States Army, and the Department of Defense.
