Headquarters, United States Army, Vietnam, General Orders No. 2620 (September 9, 1971)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain (Infantry) Arthur C. Jetter, Jr. (ASN: 0-5361907), United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight, evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty while serving with Battery C, 2d Battalion, 20th Artillery Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Division on 25 April 1971 in the Republic of Vietnam. Captain Jetter distinguished himself when his aerial artillery section was deployed from Fire Support Base MACE to support an American infantry company receiving heavy enemy rocket and mortar fire. As Captain Jetter was breaking from his first rocket run over the target area, he encountered a hail of enemy small arms fire from enemy gunners. Even though the enemy fire was becoming more and more accurate, he continued to make runs directly into the muzzle flashes of the enemy’s weapons, placing intense rocket, minigun and 40-mm. grenade fire on the positions. After several passes, flying into the teeth of the enemy fire, a large secondary explosion occurred amid the enemy emplacements. His actions in the face of great danger were instrumental in defeating the hostile force in battle. Captain Jetter’s outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
