The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Cavalry) Thomas Dooley (ASN: 0-328542), United States Army, for gallantry in action. First Lieutenant Dooley, Aide-de-Camp, having been in Manila with proper authority prior to the declaration of a state of war was, upon declaration of a state of war ordered to report at once to the Commanding General North Luzon Force at Fort Stotsenburg, Pampanga. He arrived near Clark Field just as the bombardment of that field commenced at 12:36 P.M. on 8 December 1941. Regardless of his own safety he drove his private car past the flank of Clark Field during the bombardment, and reported to the Commanding General, North Luzon Force as ordered.
