The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Ryan H. Norris, United States Army, for heroism while assigned as a Platoon Leader for Company D, 1st Battalion, 110th Infantry Regiment, during annual training on 8 June 2013. Second Lieutenant Norris’ exceptional courage, dedication to duty and personal sacrifice directly contributed to the successful rescue and evacuation of 10 Virginia Army National Guard Soldiers. His extraordinary performance, voluntary risk of life and selfless commitment to his fellow comrades-in-arms undoubtedly saved their lives. Second Lieutenant Norris’ actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of military heroism and reflect great credit upon himself, Company D, 1st Battalion, 110th Infantry Regiment, and the United States Army.
