The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Captain (Chaplain) Matthew C. Christensen, United States Army, for heroism on 28 February 2015. Chaplain Christensen, after attempting to calm down an intoxicated, suicidal and armed Soldier, prevented him from striking another Soldier with a machete. Chaplain Christensen had only a moment to react and risked his own life to save the life of another Soldier. His efforts made a difference and ultimately saved two Soldiers’ lives. Chaplain Christensen’s actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division and the United States Army.
