The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Sergeant Delton S. Kennedy, United States Army, for heroic achievement in action in Italy while serving with the 362d Infantry Regiment, 91st Infantry Division, during World War II. When a house in which he had sought cover from enemy artillery and tank fire was entered by several Germans, Sergeant Kennedy attacked the Germans and took them prisoner. Although heavy shells struck the house, killing five of the Germans and wounded Sergeant Kennedy seriously, he kept guard over the other two prisoners until he could get them out to a prisoner of war enclosure.
