The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Master Sergeant Jon R. Godfrey, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States in worldwide positions of increasing responsibility during the period of 1 March 1988 to 28 February 1998, culminating in his final assignment as Battalion Motor Sergeant, 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, Fort Riley, Kansas. Master Sergeant Godfrey’s leadership, outstanding knowledge in all aspects of the Army Maintenance System, and dedication to mission accomplishment were key to the success of the units he served. His high standards and devotion to duty increased the readiness of the battalion. His outstanding performance of duty is in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflects distinct credit upon him, Fort Riley, and the United States Army.
