William Yost served in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer escort U.S.S. EBERT during World War II, and was discharged in 1946. After graduating from Ohio University in 1951, the following year he was commissioned in the Air Force. He retired in 1980 as a U.S. Air Force Major General.
