Williams, Jr., United States Air Force, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force while serving as an F-4 Phantom Fighter Pilot in the 435th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, in action against the enemy over Southeast Asia and the destruction of one enemy MiG in aerial combat in 1968.
