After serving in the Army Air Forces in World War II, David Williams left the military to return to Texas A & M University, but returned to active duty in 1946, subsequently transferring to the U.S. Air Force in 1947. As a Fighter Pilot in the Korean War he was credited with damaging one enemy MiG aircraft in aerial combat, and in the Vietnam War he was credited with shooting down an enemy MiG. He retired in 1976 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.
