Harold Vague was commissioned a second lieutenant and served as Navigator of a B-17 during World War II, and left the service in 1947 to return to law school. He returned to service in 1949, serving in the legal department. From 1973 to 1977 he served as the 5th Judge Advocate General of the Air Force, and retired in 1977 as a U.S. Air Force Major General.
