Lucius Theus enlisted in the Army Air Forces in 1942, serving as an enlisted administrative clerk throughout the war. He was commissioned in 1946 through the Officer Candidate School, and transferred to the United States Air Force when it became a separate branch of service in 1947. He retired in 1979 as a U.S. Air Force Major General.
