The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Cecil Wedworth (MCSN: 1076734), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving in Weapons Company, Third Battalion, First Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 21 September 1950. As a member of an eight-man patrol whose mission was to silence guns within an enemy cave, Private First Class Wedworth daringly crawled forward to a position where he could more effectively direct heavy fire from his weapon against two hostile automatic weapons which were firing at the patrol. Successful in silencing one enemy gun, he was later fatally wounded. By his courage, initiative and loyal devotion to duty, Private First Class Wedworth assisted materially in enabling his patrol to complete its mission successfully, thereby upholding the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
