The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Albert F. Webster (MCSN: 422337), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Machine Gun Section leader of Company L, Third Battalion, Twenty-first Marines, THIRD Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands on 1 March 1945. When guns of his section could not be placed in position to support the attack because of unfavorable terrain, Corporal Webster charged directly into the enemy position carrying a light machine gun and, firing as he advanced, succeeded in destroying the hostile strong point, thereby enabling his company to continue the attack. His aggressive fighting spirit and courageous devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
