Paul Stein graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado, Class of 1966, where he was starting quarterback for the USAFA football team, the Falcons. After graduation he continued active duty as Assistant Coach for two years. He returned to the Academy to serve as the 13th Superintendent of the U.S. Air Force Academy from 1994 to 1997, and retired in 1997 as a U.S. Air Force Lieutenant General.
