Ralph Snavely served as an Ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve from December 1918 to April 1919. He was commissioned in the Army Air Service in 1923. After serving in the Army Air Forces in World War II, he transferred to the U.S. Air Force when it became a separate branch of service in 1947. He retired in 1954 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.

    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Colonel (Air Corps) Ralph Adel Snavely, United States Army Air Forces, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States with the Army Special Observers Group, England, and later with the Air Section, Headquarters, U.S. Army Forces in the British Isles, and subsequently with the Inter-Services Recognition Committee, during World War II. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Snavely and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
