(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Second Lieutenant (Air Corps) Leland Casper Shepard, Jr., United States Army Air Forces, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving s a B-25 Pilot of the 83d Bombardment Squadron during 25 combat missions in the Mediterranean Theater of Action from 1943 to 1944; and subsequently as a B-25 Pilot in the China-Burma-India Theater of Operations during 33 combat missions in 1944. His devotion to duty and courage under all conditions serve as an inspiration to his fellow flyers. His actions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
